Daechwita (“dae-chui-ta”)

Probably the most famous Taepyeongso piece! This used to be played at the king’s procession, or at welcoming ceremonies for important guests of the country (ex. foreign ambassadors), or at military marches. - Hence the crazy volume & more stiff posture and style. Honestly I wouldn’t want to be in the same room without earplugs lol The clothing is different than what we wear bc this one is not poongmul! The resident musicians hired by the palace would play this whenever it’s needed. Royal band of sorts I guess?

Fun fact: the thing yelled in the beginning roughly translates to “play the Jing once, we are ordered to play Daechwita!”

This is also what BTS/Suga’s song Daechwita is based on, and the first 20 secs of the MV (below) also has a Daechwita recording :D
